So you’ve got it! You just booked the vacation of your dreams… or maybe you didn’t, maybe you’re just looking for a place to rest your head at night. Maybe you have a long layover and don’t feel like sleeping on an airport bench. Maybe you just want to venture somewhere new, and get to know the locals like a local would. And you got an AirBnB… and it looks perfect. The photos are legit, the interior seems… nice-ish for the budget, and there’s nothing else you want or need. It’s even advertised as “luxury”.
And then you show up.
And it’s actually a traphouse.
Welcome to Day 1 of our travel (mis)adventures.
(feat.) An Open Dialogue About Western Beauty Standards
Let me just start out by saying this: I never thought I was pretty growing up. From the ages of 8-16, I have zero photos of myself. Zero. My mom would beg me to smile, to pose for this or that picture… and I will admit, there were some I did, but those photographs never saw the light of day again.
While I realize that the word pretty is subjective, the general consensus in the Western world seems to be an unspoken standard of long blonde or chestnut brown hair, ski-slope nose, legs like Giselle, with light green or blue almond-shaped eyes, a flat stomach, and a honeyed complexion (not too light and not too dark) to boot.
You may be sitting there rolling your eyes, chalking it all up to just being a figment of my imagination– but is it really? Just a quick look at current idolized mainstream celebrities proves otherwise. Need I note that Megan Fox, Alexis Ren, Kylie Jenner, the Hadids, Adriana Lima, Angelina Jolie, Cara Delevingne, Jennifer Lawrence, and Hailey Baldwin are all worshipped and hashtagged as #goals almost daily?
I bet I’m not the first to notice the commonalities running between nearly every popular social media influencer and celebrity of our day and age. Same as above– blonde or brunette, with legs that stretch on for miles, light eyes, and a flat stomach.
Let that sink in.

As you all have probably noticed, my blog has been about as silent as a grave for the past couple of months. Though I’m not sure who would actually sit and ask themselves,”Where in the world did Heather go? I hope she’s okay…” I’m here to inform you that y-e-s! The Republicans and Trumpers alike have not claimed me yet! I am, indeed, not dead!
What I can say is that 2017 has been an amazing year so far. Leaving 2016 behind was quite literally a weight lifted from my shoulders. I feel like a new person, a better person, with more drive than I ever knew previously existed. I wake up each morning ready for the next day, and in a way, you could say I’m ready for the rest of my life (not to be dramatic, but totally being dramatic). As I look back on my “New Year, New Blog Designs, Same Me“, I realize that now, four months later, I don’t really feel like the same “me” at all. So much has happened in my life, both good and bad, in those span of four months, I’m not even sure where and how to begin.
I know what you’re thinking– “My, what luscious hair you have.” While I wish I could confirm that it’s really mother nature working her magic, I’m no Rapunzel… although you probably could have gathered as much from the title of this post.
It’s a funny story because I was actually eyeing Irresistible Me extensions in September well before the company reached out about a possible collaboration. I distinctly remember scrolling through their website and wanting the extensions so badly, especially after seeing numerous beauty gurus rocking that big Ariana Grande hair in all of their styling tutorials. Besides, who doesn’t want that mega, ultra big, ultra thick, voluminous hair? No one. Literally no one. It’s why men buy toupees and women buy keratin treatment shampoos and serums.
It’s g r e a t, really, because with hair extensions you’re not even inconvenienced by your ginormous Grande-reminiscent bobblehead all the time. You have the freedom to take them out whenever you please. You can rock long hair one day and short the next. It’s definitely the main reason why I preferred the idea of clip-in hair extensions versus bonded hair extensions.
Below I get into my honest thoughts on the extensions and answer any burning questions you may have. Are they worth the money? What’s is the quality like? Are they durable? Read on the find out!
It’s officially the beginning of February, and while I’ve been waiting for winter to be over since before it even started, I acknowledge that we’ve got at least another month of it left. As I’m sure you’re all well aware of (unless you live in the tropics or SoCal), winter does not arrive without notice. From the ungodly weather to the dry skin and chapped lips– it’s a season that is certainly hard to ignore.
This is precisely the reason why I figured there is no time like the present to make a post detailing my daily skincare routine as well as some nifty little tricks and tips I’ve picked up along the way to combat dry and flaky skin. Winter may come and go, but it doesn’t have to get the best of you or your skin.
