As you all have probably noticed, my blog has been about as silent as a grave for the past couple of months. Though I’m not sure who would actually sit and ask themselves,”Where in the world did Heather go? I hope she’s okay…” I’m here to inform you that y-e-s! The Republicans and Trumpers alike have not claimed me yet! I am, indeed, not dead!

What I can say is that 2017 has been an amazing year so far. Leaving 2016 behind was quite literally a weight lifted from my shoulders. I feel like a new person, a better person, with more drive than I ever knew previously existed. I wake up each morning ready for the next day, and in a way, you could say I’m ready for the rest of my life (not to be dramatic, but totally being dramatic). As I look back on my “New Year, New Blog Designs, Same Me“, I realize that now, four months later, I don’t really feel like the same “me” at all. So much has happened in my life, both good and bad, in those span of four months, I’m not even sure where and how to begin.

Inaugural Protest Trump 2017( @thatdudewallace )

Ever wondered what it’s like for the unassuming, non-politically minded citizens of the District of Columbia during inauguration? Yes? No? Well I’m going to inform you anyway… because if you’re one of those going berserk over the inauguration, it’s only right that you know a little about the people whose city you are temporarily inhabiting. Seeing as this is now (most unfortunately) Trump’s America, I will be referencing his awful supporters and exercising my right to the First Amendment (yes trolls, come attack me, I dare you).

!!! W-A-R-N-I-N-G !!!

Extreme doses of sarcasm and anti-Trump rhetoric lie below the read more. This post will likely trigger either laughs or an instinct to throttle the author (i.e. me), and lastly, offend any and all Trump supporters (a.k.a Trumpers) spanning anywhere from California to the East Coast.

So without further ado, click the read more if you would like to collect ammo to attack me with, or are simply curious about the day-to-day for a Washingtonian who has little involvement with politics. Below are some common occurrences for DC residents during the inaugural period. View Post

New Year, New Blog Redesign, Same Me

I know this is undoubtedly the trillionth New Years post you’ve read, but would it really be 2017 without one?

Every year, come the end of the year, I always have the same feeling of nostalgia and simultaneous relief by the time it’s over. I admit– I’m guilty of feeling everything too deeply, and when I think back on the things that both upset and overjoyed me, I can’t help but be overcome with a random assortment of strange emotions. In this case, 2016 was one of the best and worst years of my life (for a multitude of specifics I won’t get into).

But all I can say is: Hello 2017. I’m ready for you, I’ve been waiting, I’m eager to see what you have in store, and I’m pumped for something new. I want all of it– the emotions and happiness and sadness and memories that have yet to be made. I want to see what the rest of my life holds, and taking it one year at a time sounds like a pretty good first step to me.

I figured in honor of the new year, instead of bullshitting everyone I know by saying that I’m ready to “…become a whole new me!”, I wanted to introduce a brand new blog design instead… minus the crappy resolutions and self-affirming mantras.

Check it out below!

Dear Santa... all I want for Christmas is...

❝ … Santa baby, slip a sable under the tree for me, I’ve been an awful good girl.
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight…

Okay so maybe I’m being a little inconsistent with my song choices (sue me), right after I said I wasn’t one to burst into spontaneous Christmas jingle, but I figured I should make at least one Blogmas post that didn’t absolutely bash the heck out of the holiday season. So here you have it– my hopes, dreams, and wishes (kidding, kidding) for Christmas morning.

Let me disclaim that this list is not solely comprised of only materialistic goods nor do I think Christmas is entirely about receiving gifts. What gives the holiday season sentimental meaning is because of what it represents: togetherness, family, and love… not gifts. However, here are some things I’d like for Christmas as well as some of my little aspirations for the post-Holiday season that aren’t quite big enough to be considered resolutions.

My first blogmas post and I write about this? I know what you’re thinking… what kind of terrible monster am I? How could I not just L-O-V-E Christmas? It’s the best time of year, after all! Yay commercialism, presents, and the spirit of “giving”.

I should be happy, busting out into spontaneous Christmas jingles, and donning a Santa Hat 24/7 shouldn’t I? Isn’t that what Christmas is all about?

No.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a total scrooge, and while I don’t hate Christmas, I don’t particularly like it either. If anything, despite my love for all things snow and winter, the one thing I’m not as jazzed about every year has to be Christmas. Even as a child, I don’t remember loving it for any reason other than receiving presents, and that same materialism is a phase I eventually grew out of.
