Fall is, hands down, my favorite season to dress for. It combines my love for fuzzy sweaters, utmost comfort, and layers into one neatly wrapped package. Not to mention autumn in the city always lends itself to new fashions; and I love people watching as much as I love picking out my wardrobe for the day ahead.

Every season, whether I consciously realize it or not, I tend to go through an unavoidable style evolution. I guess it all comes with the territory of growing older in conjunction with spending more time in the city. Urban life definitely dictates everything from my taste palette to my music choices, right down to my wardrobe; and I’m in a constant state of evolution along with my style as its own entity.

As a small town girl, it’s refreshing being able to dress how I like without being looked at strangely, and I definitely feel more at home walking around the streets of DC than rural Maine. This year, I think my wardrobe has matured immeasurably beyond what I was wearing two autumns ago, or even last year at this time. Below you can find some of the outfits I paired together, as well as a peek at my favorite fall style staples!

It’s that time of the year again! Holiday bells are ringing and the festivity of the seasonal spirit is in full swing before Thanksgiving has even begun! Kudos to our consumerist culture for making us feel like we should begin our Christmas shopping beginning Black Friday all the way up until the magic day! Whoopee to showering our loved ones in jewelry, money, and gifts oh my!

Though I don’t support the culture around excess spending (even if I may be guilty of it myself), I do like to get a head start on my own Christmas shopping. I’ve noticed that pushing it off until the last minute doesn’t work for me. You know the mental image of a woman pulling out her hair as she throws everything haphazardly into her shopping cart, strolling down the aisles of her local Walmart? Yeah, I don’t want that person to be me.

This is why I’ve decided to do a holiday gift guide in the weeks leading up to Christmas/Hanukkah/whatever Holiday you happen to celebrate. Of course these gifts can be used for any occasion (like birthdays, holidays, or celebrations), but I figured this would be the perfect time of year for this kind of post.

This gift guide is specifically catered towards the men in your life, whether that be your brother, boyfriend, guy friend, or coworker. Though this is, by no means, a hard and fast guide, I hope that it will inspire other gift ideas and help turn Christmas shopping into a breeze. Check out my favorite items to gift below!

As someone with perpetually flat hair, no matter what I do, my hair always slumps like it’s sad and in desperate need of life. I’ve searched for YEARS for a product to make it puffy and voluminous but to no avail… until I found the Bumble & Bumble Dryspun Finish.

Now, I will disclaim I’m not a fan of hairsprays, gels, or anything that makes your hair feel like a cardboard box. I like the natural texture of my own hair and I won’t put anything in it that makes it look odd or uncomfortable to touch.

E N T E R: Bumble & Bumble Dryspun Finish (a.k.a the answer to flat hair everywhere).

The spray retails for $31 for a 4oz container… which is pretty good considering some hair products are super expensive (upwards of $40-$60).

Now, there are a couple reasons I love this product:

  • It makes your hair look and feel like a fluffy cloud
  • Non-abrasive to the touch
  • Subtle but fresh fragrance
  • You don’t need to use a lot of it
  • Doesn’t make your hair feel like straw

While it’s technically a hairspray, it doesn’t feel like one. The Bumble & Bumble Dryspun Finish is a necessity for those looking to add texture and volume; and it doesn’t leave the residual feeling of stiffness like most hairsprays. It also doesn’t make me gag when I accidentally spray it in my face, so it deserves like, 50 extra bonus points for that.

On top of that, can you believe it’s also multipurpose (wow I sound like an infomercial, I swear I wasn’t given this hairspray, I just love it a lot)?! You can use this spray a total of about six different ways. Check out how I use it by clicking the read more below!

It’s the fourth day of November and you know what that means… time for goal setting and pie consuming. November is one of my favorite months, and it has e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g to do with the fact that Thanksgiving is right around the corner.

In honor of the month of giving thanks, here is a list of a few things I’m thankful for right now!

  • My sassy professors and my TA’s Twitter account (and also teasing my TA about the tweets he writes about his students)
  • My grandmother’s cute little laugh
  • My amazing, friendly, funny, inspiring, friends. I know it’s cheesy to say, but the people in my life right now are all some of the best people I’ve ever met– 10/10 would recommend.
  • The fact that I’m lucky enough to pursue an area of study I enjoy, and also have time to pursue my other hobbies such as blogging, photography, writing, and graphic design. School doesn’t dominate my entire life and even though there will come a time where it will have to, right now I’m just focused on riding the wave.
  • The smell of rain
  • My size 6 feet and the fact that shoes are never sold out in my size
  • !!!!MY MOM!!!!!

Okay, now after that little celebratory aside, let’s talk goals. More importantly, the goals I set for myself last month.

I won’t be the first or last to say that I’m lucky to live in DC (also known as the capitol of the United States), for a better part of eight months out of the year. I still remember when I was accepted to my top choice college in the city, and how excited I was to start a new leg of my lifelong adventure. Now I’m almost halfway through my college career and I can’t believe how quickly time has flown by.

Regardless, during the time that I’ve been here, I’ve made it a priority to get out and explore. I want to see, breathe, and know every nook and cranny there is; and coming from a 5,000 person town definitely taught me not to take the time I have in DC for granted.

Seeing as this is my first ever See DC post, I wanted to show one of my favorite places in the city to escape to. Eastern Market has something for everyone, and while you’re here, you can definitely feel a strong sense of the city’s culture.
